STILL TIME TO GET INTO HOT WATER (FORUM) & OTHER EXCELLENT ADVENTURES AT CONFERENCES COMING UP!

2009 Hot Water Forum: Water Heating, Distribution, and Use Efficiency
June 7-10, 2009
Asilomar Conference Center
Pacific Grove, California

The 2009 Hot Water Forum is shaping up to be another successful meeting at which manufacturers; water, gas, and electric utilities; government and other program and policymakers; and industry representatives gather to learn from each other and explore the potential of increasing efficiency of hot water generation, distribution, and use (fixtures and appliances), with special emphasis on the ENERGY STAR program and water efficiency. The conference will kick-off with a Sunday afternoon visit to "Hummingbird Hill" to visit Larry Weingarten's unique collection of antique water heaters. The following days will feature a program of short, results-oriented talks as well as displays of equipment, software packages, and other interesting subjects.

2009 ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Industry
July 28-31, 2009
The Conference Center Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls, New York

The 2009 ACEEE Summer Study is the 9th biennial ACEEE conference on Energy Efficiency in Industry. Participants from around the world will gather for three days to discuss technical, policy, financing, and program issues related to increasing energy efficiency in industry. Over 80 peer-reviewed papers plus invited presentations will relate to the theme, Timing is Everything: Moving Investment Decisions to Energy-Efficient Solutions. Plenaries will include presentations by the 2009 Champion of Energy Efficiency Award winners who will be selected in June.

Summer Study will offer opportunities to learn about approaches to securing your boss's support for energy efficiency, financing mechanisms to pay for your project, regulatory aspects affecting energy efficiency projects, commercially-available technologies that work, and emerging technologies likely destined to be the next big thing. Attendees will include energy decision makers from industry, equipment manufacturers, government policymakers, electric and gas utility staff, energy consultants, leading industrial energy researchers, and academics.

A list of the conference Panels, Panel Leaders, and accepted abstracts is available on the Summer Study Web site. For the first time, a Tech Expo will also be organized. Contact Anna Chittum at ACEEE for more information on the Tech Expo: achittum@aceee.org.

Registration is available online. Nominations for the 2009 Champions of Energy Efficiency awards are now closed. The champion awards will be announced and presented at the Summer Study. Student Scholarships will also be awarded soon (the application deadline is now closed). Scholarship recipients will be selected in June.

ACEEE’s 5th National Conference on Energy Efficiency as a Resource
September 27-29, 2009
The Drake Hotel
Chicago, Illinois

Energy Efficiency is hot!  Energy Efficiency's importance as a utility resource has never been greater than it is now. The industry faces soaring power plant construction costs, high and volatile fuel costs, growing concerns about system reliability, and increasing calls for action to address global warming. Numerous states have established aggressive new energy savings goals, pushing programs to achieve higher and higher savings. With these new requirements and goals come a variety of new challenges.

The 5th National Conference on Energy Efficiency as a Resource will bring together industry leaders once again to discuss the latest developments in the use of energy efficiency as a key resource for meeting customer and utility system needs and for addressing other critical economic and environmental objectives.

ACEEE is modifying the process for this conference to include accepting proposals for presentations that fit within 7 topic areas:

  • Meeting aggressive resource goals for energy efficiency
  • Regulatory mechanisms to encourage utility energy efficiency programs
  • Measuring the energy efficiency resource
  • Integrated resource planning and system operation
  • Energy efficiency and system reliability
  • Energy efficiency and the environment
  • Federal initiatives in utility sector energy efficiency

We invite you to submit presentation abstracts of up to 250 words by the deadline of June 5, 2009. If you're interested in participating in this important event, go to: http://aceee.org/conf/09ee/09eeindex.htm for more information about submitting an abstract and/or registering to attend. (Registration information will be posted mid-June.)

2009 Behavior, Energy, and Climate Change (BECC) Conference
November 15-18, 2009
Marriott Wardman Park Hotel
Washington, D.C.

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), the Precourt Institute for Energy Efficiency (PIEE), and the California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE) are pleased to announce the 3rd annual Behavior, Energy and Climate Change Conference (BECC).

The 2009 Behavior, Energy and Climate Change Conference focuses on accelerating our transition to an energy-efficient and low carbon economy through an improved understanding and application of social and behavioral mechanisms of change.  This year’s conference will build on the overwhelming success of the 2008 BECC Conference in which more than 700 participants discussed successful program strategies, shared innovative research findings, and built dynamic new networks and means of collaboration.  This pre-eminent conference will bring together a diverse group of energy experts, social scientists, and policymakers to discuss the social and behavioral basis for, and practical implementation of, reducing energy use through the adoption and application of more energy-efficient technologies, energy conservation activities, and lifestyle changes.

The conference is intended to catalyze collaboration across government, utility, business, and research sectors and to share recent research and program information with the goal of achieving viable solutions for meeting long-term energy and greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets.

The conference will cover a broad mix of topics and will include invited speakers and presenters selected through a competitive abstract review.  The online abstract submission is now closed and abstracts are currently under consideration.  All applicants will be informed about the status of their abstract by Monday, June 1st.

Look for registration information as well as more updates about the conference this summer.
