2004 ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings

2004 ACEEE Informal Sessions Descriptions

Additional Informal Sessions may be organized on-site during the Summer Study. Visit the office in Surf and Sand to sign up for an Informal Session.

Session Synopsis - "Leading the Way: International Developments in Public Sector Energy Efficiency "

Laura Van Wie McGrory, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Philip E. Coleman, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Jeffrey P. Harris, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Monday, August 23
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Government facilities and services are often the largest energy users and major purchasers of energy-using equipment within a country; government "leadership by example" can be a powerful force to shift the market toward energy efficiency. This session follows up on Tuesday's poster session (Guiding Efficiency in the Public Sector) and the lively 2002 Summer Study informal session chaired by David Garman, bringing together international Summer Study participants with experience or interest in public sector energy efficiency activities.

The session will include updates on current efforts to promote public sector energy efficiency around the globe, discussion of barriers and solutions, and opportunities for initiating programs or expanding existing efforts. There also will be opportunity to discuss the current activities of the PEPS Program (Promoting an Energy-efficient Public Sector) and its soon-to-be-released Guide to Efficient Energy Use in the Public Sector.
