Session
Synopsis - "Developing a U.S. Technology Repository Database"
Carol Shay, U.S. EPA
Wednesday, July 20
1:30 PM - 3:00 PM
The data intensive nature of energy modeling requires up to date characterization of current and future technologies. As the quality of the modeling effort depends, in a large part, on the inherent assumptions within the underlying data, ensuring appropriate characterization of technologies is a key, yet time consuming and costly component of any modeling effort. Conducting sensitivity and uncertainty analyses requires representative data from a broad range of sources reflecting a broad range of assumptions. The U.S. EPA has begun to construct a database that will include all of the technologies represented in their U.S. MARKAL model, as well as characterizations of other technologies gleaned from the literature. The goal of this session is to identify potential collaborators and users and outline the steps needed to expand this database effort and make it as valuable to the user as possible.
