Study.
Session
Synopsis - "Generating Insights from a U.S. Technology Database"
Skip Laitner, EPA Office of Atmospheric Programs
Wednesday, July 20
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
The appropriate mapping technology characterizations into economic
models is a critical step in the assessment of energy policies.
Yet, many of the current energy policy models either fail to provide
more than a highly stylized characterization of technology, or they
inappropriately map technology as a cost without reflecting any
benefits in the form of energy bill savings or productivity gains.
The objective of this session is two-fold: First, we want to explore
and highlight ways that a well-designed technology database can
be used to as a diagnostic tool evaluate the appropriateness of
modeling results. Second, since many (most?) technologies have yet
to be either invented or deployed, we want to explore ways that
a current technology database might be used to help us think about
the evolution of technologies over the long-term, generally past
the year 2025. As with its companion workshop, Developing
a U.S. Technology Repository Database, the overriding goal of
this session is to identify potential collaborators and to outline
the steps that build on the insights that emerge from this session.
