2008 ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Industry

Informal Sessions Description

Additional Informal Sessions may be organized on-site during the Summer Study.

International Best Practices in Building Energy Codes: A New Community of Practice?

Adam Hinge and Cliff Majersik

Monday, August 18
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Building energy codes are widely recognized as one of the most cost effective and high impact policies to achieve energy efficiency and carbon reduction. At the same time, there is growing awareness that simply developing building energy codes or regulations does not result in desired outcomes without significant resources toward code enforcement and administration and some sort of labeling and/or certification. Some jurisdictions have had success implementing energy codes, while in other jurisdictions evaluations are showing lower levels of compliance. A number of parties have discussed the need for more communications about ideas for global best practices sharing on code development, implementation, enforcement and administration. One goal of this informal session will be to identify current gaps, and priorities for a possible global “Best Practices Network” on building energy codes.
