The perfect hot water storm: Energy prices are rising, new technologies are emerging, and water conservation suddenly matters, from Georgia to California. Energy and water utilities can help their customers live more efficiently, and hot water is a key target. In response, The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) held The 2009 Hot Water Forum: Water Heating, Distribution, and Use Efficiency, at the famous Asilomar Conference Center (Pacific Grove, CA) from Sunday evening, June 7 – noon, Wednesday, June 10. Following the success of the inaugural 2008 Water Heating Forum, this event brought together manufacturers; water, gas, and electric utilities; government and other program and policy people, and other industry representatives to learn from each other and explore the potential of increasing efficiency of hot water generation, distribution, and use (fixtures and appliances), with special emphasis on the ENERGY STAR program and water efficiency. In a difficult economy, the 2009 Forum exceeded expectations thanks to the hard work of the steering committee and presenters, the participation of the attendees, and the generosity of our funders. We look forward to the future of the Hot Water Forum as we promote our goals of efficiency in water heating, distribution and use.
