Building Codes

Alabama State Energy Codes

Summary:

Alabama has no mandatory state-wide code for residential or commercial buildings.  Recently the Residential Energy Code Board of Alabama unanimously agreed to adopt the energy provisions contained within the International Residential Code©, 2006 edition as the minimum voluntary compliance standards for residential design and construction. The 2006 IECC is mandatory for government-owned buildings as of December 1, 2008.  This code is also recommended for private commercial buildings.
