Building Codes

Colorado State Energy Codes

Summary:

Colorado is a home rule state with a voluntary building code for both residential and commercial construction with the 2003 IECC as a minimum for jurisdictions that have adopted a code previously. For jurisdictions which have not adopted or enforced codes, the 1993 MEC is mandatory for hotels, motels and multi-family dwellings. A list of jurisdictions that have adopted codes can be found at the EERE and BCAP pages linked below. The state energy office is now promoting adoption of the 2009 IECC and has been doing a lot of code-related training for builders, contractors, and local code officials.
