Hawaii Model Energy Code

Summary:

Hawaii has no statewide mandatory residential building code; however, the “Hawaii Model Energy Code,” which exceeds the 1995 MECs, is voluntary statewide, and mandatory in the counties of Honolulu and Maui. ASHRAE 90.1-1989 (with modifications) is mandatory for commercial buildings in Hawaii County, and ASHRAE 90.1-1999 is mandatory in the counties of Honolulu, Kauai, and Maui.
