Building Codes

Tennessee State Energy Codes

Summary:

Tennessee is a home rule state, which gives jurisdictions the power to adopt codes. Compliance with the 2003 IECC is mandatory statewide for residential construction. The commercial building code, based on ASHRAE 90A-1980 and 90B-1975, is voluntary. Jurisdictions can adopt more stringent codes for either residential or commercial construction.
