Proceedings: Workshop on Partnerships for Industrial Productivity through Energy Efficiency

Increasing energy efficiency in manufacturing can save industries money, enhance productivity and competitiveness, and reduce pollutant emissions. ACEEE organized a Workshop on Industrial Productivity Through Energy Efficiency in September, 1993 to explore strategies for greater industrial competitiveness through greater energy efficiency. The workshop brought together 125 representatives of industry, government, utilities, the research community and public interest groups.

The workshop Proceedings are now available. it features 27 papers, 8 discussion summaries, and 4 retrospective essays on topics such as:

"Industries spend around $100 billion per year on energy purchases and account for 36 percent of national energy consumption. The workshop Proceedings documents how industries can cut their energy bills and enhance their productivity by working in partnership with government agencies and utilities," stated Neal elliott, program chair of the workshop and ACEEE Research Associate.

"Implementing public policies and utility conservation programs that appeal to and motivate large industries is not easy. Industrial energy managers, government officials and utility program managers need to engage in a constructive dialogue and work in partnership. The Proceedings shows how this can be done, as well as the benefits that can result," added Howard Geller, Executive Director of ACEEE.
