Job Description

Coordinator, Market Development

CLASP is seeking motivated energy, research, policy, and international development professionals interested in helping us execute a suite of high-impact market development, technical, policy, research, and innovation interventions. CLASP’s market acceleration services hasten our impacts, by complementing smart policy, overcoming bureaucratic sluggishness, or setting the stage for policy interventions in the future.  Central among these initiatives is an ambitious new research and innovation program focused on accelerating off- and weak-grid markets for highly-efficient appliances.

The Coordinator must be a highly detailed, results oriented person, who will be responsible for a wide and diverse range of activities related to the development and execution of programmatic, organizational and sustainable development goals. In many cases, the work is too new, and data too limited, to model and quantify impacts, and the Coordinator will bring their creativity and problem solving skills to help us narrow these gaps.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate skill and success in some of the following areas: knowledge about appliance efficiency, enabling technologies, and product markets and supply chains as related to energy efficiency and access; excellent people skills; effective project management, execution, and/or administration; coordination of productive and collegial institutional partnerships; experience contributing to effective published resources and materials; effective verbal and written communications about technical topics to both subject matter experts and laypeople; extraordinary commitment to impacts, results, and world-class work product; and a sense of humor.

You must be able to produce a variety of written work products that are clear, concise, and of impeccable quality. And, you must be as deeply committed to your work and the value of it as your colleagues are of theirs, and collaborate effectively with them and others to capture the huge opportunity to accelerate more sustainable cooling around the world.

Box checkers need not apply. Creative, open-minded, innovative self-starters welcome.

What You Will Do

As a Coordinator, you will turn ideas into impact by participating in internal team discussions, take CLASP and partner-generated knowledge products, resources, and tools, and inspire and facilitate impact-oriented follow-on activity and market/program/policy action. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving program infrastructure, supporting program outreach, communications, and reporting, and executing critical administrative tasks to ensure the team is set up to develop and execute programmatic and organizational objectives successfully in order to help deliver a suite of services that includes everything from product testing and quality assurance, to energy labeling and consumer communications, to convening local manufacturers, to drafting standards, to measuring the outcomes of specific policies.

You will be expected to perform the following and other duties as assigned:

  • Collect and assist with synthesizing data from original and existing data sources; providing written and graphical representations of data
  • Conduct technical and/or policy research related to residential and commercial cooling appliances and/or market transformation studies.
  • Support developing database applications, as needed.
  • Maintain and improve quantitative and analytical tools, including complex spreadsheets for energy and economic analysis.
  • Support relationship management of partnerships with NGOs, governments, and donors, where appropriate.
  • Help organize meetings, workshops, and events to further the implementation and sustainability of cooling program activities.
  • Maintain infrastructure to ensure effective planning, management, and timely implementation of cooling program activities in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders

  • Professional experience in business development and/or program administration; experience in the energy efficiency sector or analogous sectors preferred. Familiarity with technical or policy analysis of energy-using products and/or qualitative research methods is ideal.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional/academic experience in environmental policy/sciences, engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong creative and analytical skills
  • Confident and polished communication skills
  • Ability to connect with and influence people in a diverse, international work environment
  • Strong work ethic and an ability to take initiative
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
  • Ability to work from the big picture to the small details.
  • Ability to maintain composure, flexibility, and a sense of humor under tight deadlines.
  • Intellectual agility and a commitment to professional development
  • International experience preferred; bilingual or multilingual a plus.
  • Ability to travel in both developed and developing countries
