The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a leading national research organization based in Washington, D.C., seeks a qualified analyst for its Buildings program. ACEEE seeks an analyst to manage research projects and outreach activities on energy efficiency in the buildings sector. ACEEE’s Buildings Program works on a range of topics covering residential and commercial buildings, equipment, and appliances. We apply building science principles and analysis to recommend policy, programs, and market-based solutions for improving energy efficiency in homes and buildings. ACEEE recommendations are used by federal, state, and local policymakers, utilities, and the private sector. The Buildings Program also supports ACEEE’s State Policy and Local Policy programs in technical assistance efforts.
The analyst reports to the Buildings Program director, leads some research projects and collaborates on others involving Building Program staff and other teams at ACEEE as well as external organizations and energy efficiency experts. ACEEE research projects most often result in externally-reviewed written research reports, but other deliverables include technical briefs, fact sheets, formal presentations, webinars, press interviews, and blog posts. The analyst will also contribute to the Buildings Program’s technical advocacy in federal and state regulatory proceedings, code development activities, and other programs.
Conducting research and analysis on a variety of buildings energy efficiency topics and preparing research reports and other work products
Analyzing large and complex data sets
Managing project timelines and budgets
Helping develop new projects and funding proposals
Engaging with industry, policymakers, and energy efficiency advocates
Maintaining relationships with a network of utilities, manufacturers, contractors, non-governmental organizations, agency staff, and others working in buildings energy efficiency
Representing ACEEE externally to media, funders, policymakers, and the efficiency community
Capable of engaging with external stakeholders
Ability to work on several ongoing projects with competing deadlines
Highly analytical and an eye for detail
Excellent writing and oral presentation skills
Tech-savvy and self-starter
Articulate and thoughtful
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field including (but not limited to) engineering or physical sciences, energy, or environmental studies; Master’s degree preferred
- Demonstrable interest in policy analysis, preferably including work experience and/or coursework
- Four years of relevant work experience
- Some project management experience
- Strong spreadsheet analysis and graphing skills; familiarity with data analytics (e.g., Python, R)
- Experience with building science, building technologies, and buildings energy efficiency policy
Preferred start date: on or about August 2018. This position is based in Washington, DC
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes ACEEE’s generous benefits package which includes health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage; a 403(b) retirement plan; transportation and bike share benefits; three weeks of vacation in the first year and four weeks thereafter.
