Job Overview:

This position is responsible for providing expert technical support to utility client customers, trade allies and program subcontractors. In this role, the candidate will provide energy advice and technical services for the Entergy New Orleans Energy Smart Program. Energy Smart is the city's energy efficiency program. Energy Smart is an incentive program available to all Entergy New Orleans electric customers that provides cash incentives to customers for making improvements to residential and commercial buildings that will reduce electricity usage. Targeted measures include: HVAC systems, lighting, building envelope, water heating, building automation systems, process, motors, ventilation, compressed air as well as other equipment and systems for energy efficiency and building comfort. This position is additionally responsible for directly managing customer projects from program introduction to post-installation verification activities to support businesses and residential customers, and working with program trade allies.

This position will be the lead engineer for the Entergy New Orleans Energy Smart Program technical team and assist other technical staff with project reviews. There will be customer interaction to provide customers advice and recommendations on the technical solutions that best suit their needs. This position will review energy savings calculations for accuracy and compliance with program requirements.

Our role is to develop energy-savings programs that are vital in the marketplace for residential and business customers. This program is funded by utility clients whom we serve with equity to reduce energy use while providing an opportunity for equitable participation in the energy program.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Work with residential customers, business and building owners, developers, architects, engineers and contractors to provide energy efficiency advice and assistance for the Entergy New Orleans Energy Smart Program
  • Perform on-site inspections of properties
  • Identify and provide documentation of on-site opportunities for energy efficiency buildings under design and construction; provide follow-up as required to the customers
  • Participate in QA/QC and internal audit activities
  • Discuss technical elements of energy consuming equipment in residential, commercial & Industrial facilities (lighting, HVAC, hot water systems, envelope, integrated design, building automation systems, process, motors, ventilation, compressed air and other equipment) and how it affects utility consumption and demand, to help prioritize recommendations and achieve goals.
  • Review customer incentive applications for energy savings projects to ensure completion and accuracy, such as confirming detailed savings calculations.
  • Analyse customer utility bills; Enter data into spreadsheets and program database to determine energy savings and to manage current projects, collaborate with other Entergy Louisiana staff as required to maximize technical support to the programs customers.
  • Keep current on the latest energy-saving technology to provide program measure suggestions when appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with all APTIM quality and safety policies as well as all OSHA regulations.
  • Develop relationships with program participants including end customers, trades and partners to identify and address their needs from the Program to provide information and remove barriers to participation.
  • Develop and lead presentations promoting energy efficiency on behalf of the program at various conferences, community events, or professional organizations.
  • Provide assistance with customer service, collaborate with engineers regarding energy audits, post-installation inspections and project reporting.
  • Utilize program spreadsheets and databases to calculate energy savings for customers, engage with trade allies and contractors as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all APTIM quality and safety policies as well as all OSHA regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • 4-6+ years' engineering experience related to mechanical design, energy modelling or construction; 3+ years' experience in the energy efficiency industry preferred.
  • Must be a self-starter, organized and have an ability to prioritize workload in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to identify and resolve project application issues with customers and trade allies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, field auditing tools, CRM systems and tracking databases.
  • Understanding of financial concepts including project payback periods and return on investment.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong communication skills, experience with customer engagement and coordination.
  • Strong quantitative and analytic capabilities including report writing and spreadsheet analysis.
  • Ability to identify and resolve project incentive application issues with customers and trade allies.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • BPI, CEM, EIT/PE certification and/or the desire/ability to obtain
  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 4+ years' experience in the energy efficiency industry preferred.
  • Understanding of energy efficiency technologies and energy-saving solutions including, lighting, HVAC and mechanical systems
