ACEEE Study Finds “Smart Meters” Not Smart Enough to Slash Residential Power Use and Significantly Reduce Consumer Electric Bills

Washington, D.C.Consumers could cut their household electricity use as much as 12 percent and save $35 billion or more over the next 20 years if U.S. utilities go beyond simple “smart meter” initiatives to include a wide range of energy-use feedback tools that get consumers more involved in the process of using less energy, according to a major new report from the nonprofit American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).

Three Studies All Find that Long-Term Greenhouse Gas Emissions Limits Can be Met without Harming the U.S. Economy

<p>On Tuesday June 15, 2010, three studies were released on the impacts of the <a href="/topics/american-power-act-2010">American Power Act (APA)</a> as developed by Senators Kerry and Lieberman. The three studies also integrated in all or many aspects of the <a href="/topics/acela">American Clean Energy Leadership Act (ACELA)</a> as developed by the Senate Energy Committee. All three studies found that impacts of this bill on the U.S. economy would be minimal.

Manufacturing Recovery Continues in May

<p>The <a href="http://www.ism.ws/about/?navItemNumber=4884">Institute of Supply Management</a> reported today that <a href="http://www.ism.ws/ISMReport/MfgROB.cfm">activity in 16 of 18 industry sectors increased last month</a>, for the 10th consecutive month of manufacturing growth. The only industry groups that contracted were petroleum and coal.</p>
