Participants from around the world gathered for three days to discuss technical, policy, and program issues related to increasing energy efficiency in industry for ACEEE's 5th biennial conference on Energy Efficiency in Industry, whose theme was "Increasing Productivity Through Energy Efficiency."

Attendees included energy decision-makers from industry, equipment manufacturers, government policymakers, electric utility staff, energy consultants, leading industrial energy researchers, and academics. This mix of people with different backgrounds and experiences was one of the unique aspects of this meeting.

The Summer Study promotes interaction among participants through structured and unstructured sessions. Multi-disciplinary refereed papers were presented in the mornings, informal sessions and display sessions were held in the afternoons, and plenary sessions were featured throughout the conference.
