Chaloner has partnered with The Clean Energy Buyer’s Association (“CEBA”) on a search for a Director, Global Programs. The Director, Global Programs will report to the Senior Vice President, Global Programs. 

Position Overview

The Clean Energy Buyer’s Association (CEBA) activates energy buyers and partners to advance low-cost, reliable, carbon emissions free global energy systems.

The Director of Global Programs will be an organizational leader and help lead a dynamic team developing and implementing a global clean energy policy, market, and education and training portfolio to accelerate clean energy investment, development, and procurement around the world. 

The Director will provide leadership across two major programmatic pillars of CEBA Global Programs—Global Policy and Markets, and the Clean Energy Procurement Academy (the Academy). The Director will also lead and/or support the development and execution of program strategies, new programmatic initiatives, key partnerships, business development/fundraising, tools and resources, program reporting, evaluation and impact, and personnel growth and development. 

The Director will have a keen understanding of and ability to grow and scale global programs and initiatives, develop and implement solutions to clean energy policy and market issues, and will be a key thought leader, industry expert and an organizational ambassador.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Direction: In collaboration with SVP, develop and implement strategic vision and programmatic engagement to drive clean energy policy reform and procurement in priority markets around the world. Lead development of strategy for the Academy to diversify and expand funding, prioritize markets for ongoing or new deployment, and deliver impact.
  2. Program Leadership: Lead the design, development and execution of the Academy, including curriculum development, in-person trainings, online learning system (“Digital Academy”), engagement with Academy Steering Committee members, and implementing partners in priority countries in Asia, including China, Vietnam, Republic of Korea, India, and Indonesia.  
  3. Thought Leadership: Lead the development of authoritative content and resources on clean energy policy and markets, corporate clean energy procurement and supply chain decarbonization. This will include reports on clean energy procurement options, playbooks and primers, policy principles and recommendations, and other thought leadership pieces informed by consultation with CEBA colleagues and members, industry experts, etc. 
  4. Personnel Management: Lead and manage team to successfully execute on programmatic goals, including personnel, budgets, reporting, etc. Provide coaching and mentoring to support team members’ growth and development. Manage consultants and other technical experts in the execution of work.
  5. Partnership Development and Stakeholder Engagement: Lead ongoing development and deepening of existing CEBA partnerships with global, regional, and national organizations and key stakeholders, including policymakers.
  6. Member Education and Engagement: Educate and engage CEBA members on existing and emerging clean energy policy developments and issues, and drive greater participation in Clean Energy Procurement Academy. 
  7. Business Development: Lead business & program development efforts by identifying fundraising opportunities, cultivating relationships, and preparing business development proposals, concept notes, presentations and reports to existing and potential funders.
  8. Industry Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert for global best practices for clean energy procurement options and market and policy recommendations that promote clean energy investment, deployment and procurement.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 17+ years’ experience if no higher education, or
  • 12+ years’ experience + bachelor’s degree, or
  • 8+ years’ experience + master’s degree
  • Demonstrated international experience and expertise in clean energy market dynamics, policy advisory, and/or corporate clean energy procurement. 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex collaboration with multinational corporations and industry partners
  • Outstanding communication (verbal and/or written) skills, including public speaking at major events and forums
  • Proven ability to deliver results and impact in the international clean energy and climate space
  • Desire and willingness to help build and grow existing portfolio and new initiatives through entrepreneurial thinking and action 
  • Commitment to CEBA’s core values of Respect, Integrity, Service & Excellence

Desired and/or Additional:

  • Demonstrated experience in or understanding of corporate clean energy procurement in APAC
  • Demonstrated ability to lead development and expansion of education and training programs for membership-based organization
  • Clear understanding of corporate climate commitments, GHG accounting, and supply chain engagement.
  • Experience with development and implementation of digital training platforms to scale clean energy procurement education. 
  • Excellent analytical skills using quantitative and quantitative approaches and ability to synthesize analysis into clear and authoritative recommendations

Physical Demands:

  • Domestic and international travel for up to 20% annually 
  • Participation in virtual meetings with partners in Asia in the early morning and evening hours

Compensation

  • $155,000-$170,000
