We are currently seeking a full-time Energy Engineer II to join our Policy & Ratings team. Our Policy & Ratings Team supports the development of building codes, product standards, and other policies through a data-driven analytical approach. The person selected to fill this position shall have knowledge of building science, decarbonization, energy-efficient technologies, energy codes and standards, and energy modeling. Knowledge of HVAC and industrial systems is especially sought after, together with knowledge of grid harmonization technologies, demand response, and distributed generation. Knowledge of data science techniques and programming languages, including python, Ruby, Perl, or R is a plus.

Energy Solutions operates as a predominantly remote workforce with offices in  six different locations. Employees who reside within 40 miles of an office will be assigned to that location, though in-office attendance requirements may vary by team. At this time, we are not accepting applications from candidates residing in the following states: Alaska, Delaware, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Wyoming.

Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Analysis of zero-carbon and energy efficient technologies in the context of energy policy, including aspects such as the development of product technical potential and feasibility, energy savings, cost-effectiveness, code compliance, and market barriers.  
  • Perform building energy modeling using physics engines such as EnergyPlus and apply statistical methods and other post-processing analyses (including data analysis and scripting) to results.  
  • Help craft long-term market transformation strategies intended to accelerate the market adoption rate of zero-carbon and energy efficient measures and technologies. 
  • Support senior engineering staff to develop product testing plans, oversee testing regimens at accredited test labs, and perform analysis on test results for product categories undergoing standards updates. 
  • Write reports on technical topics in support of codes and standards rulemakings (e.g., Title 24 CASE Reports, federal appliance standards advocacy comment letters), proposals to change test methods and minimum energy performance standards proposals, code readiness and emerging technology studies, and other public-facing documents. 
  • Work with team members to engage with industry stakeholders to advance product efficiency goals through codes and standards rulemakings. 
  • Support our team in preparing for and participating in public hearings, at the state and national level as well as meetings of national stakeholder groups / working groups and industry committees. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A technical bachelor’s degree with a preference towards mechanical, industrial, electrical, or environmental engineering.  
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in engineering or work in related area. 
  • Knowledge of Title 24, ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, and other energy codes. 
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports, technical papers, and provide technical presentations to knowledgeable audiences. 
  • Experience with data analysis, scripting, and large-scale simulations. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to observe Pacific Time working hours as needed. 
  • Willingness to conduct occasional business travel (approximately 3 to 4 times per year). 
  • Ability to work in the US without requiring Energy Solutions to commence or sponsor an immigration case in order to employ you now or in the future. 

 

Compensation to commensurate with experience with the pay band of  $85,000 - $102,000/Annually
