A key federal program, the Industrial Demonstrations Program (IDP), is accelerating the uptake of new, competitive technologies in America’s industrial sector. Over the last several months, the Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded 29 first-of-a-kind projects in the cement, iron & steel, aluminum, chemicals, and other industrial sectors. Now, these projects are entering the next phase of development to ultimately carry out the DOE’s mission of revitalizing our domestic industrial sector with the most advanced technologies and production processes.
This fact sheet surveys the IDP’s many opportunities to transform how the industrial sector operates—from base materials to process technologies and end products. Many U.S. plants are decades old and do not have the advanced processes necessary to compete with newer foreign facilities. The IDP is a key step to transform our industrial facilities, strengthen national security, and bring over $14 billion in private investment to communities in over 20 states.
