How large is the energy efficiency “industry”? At least 2.2 million people work in whole or in part on energy efficiency in the United States. If supporting jobs and jobs due to energy savings are included, the total is at least three times as large. The jobs are spread in multiple sectors and in every state. US energy efficiency investment is at least $86 billion a year. This fact sheet summarizes recent studies on the economic footprint of energy efficiency, and includes stories of several people who work in energy efficiency. (Updated March 2019.)
