Energy Engineer 

Future Energy Enterprises, LLC (FutEE) is seeking a highly motivated engineer who is interested in collaborating with clean energy stakeholders across California to develop technical solutions that accelerate the adoption of energy efficiency (EE), electrification, and other integrated demand side management (IDSM) solutions in California. The ideal candidate is an engineer with experience in energy efficiency and stakeholder engagement, strong communication and collaboration skills, and a penchant for problem solving. 

Overview

This position will support FutEE’s management and facilitation of the California Technical Forum (Cal TF). The Cal TF is a statewide collaborative of clean energy experts who use independent professional judgment and a transparent, technically robust process to review and issue technical information to support California’s IDSM portfolio. FutEE manages the Cal TF including performing technical analysis and research, facilitating Technical Forum meetings and working groups, administering the California electronic Technical Reference Manual (eTRM), and developing the annual Cal TF Business Plan and Roadmap. 

Job Description

The Energy Engineer position will provide engineering support for multiple Cal TF initiatives, including the Custom Initiative, New Measures Initiative, and Cal TF’s ongoing management of Deemed Measure Packages and the eTRM. Collectively, these initiatives aim to accelerate the deployment of demand side clean energy solutions in California. 

Review, Update, Test, and Document Calculation Tools

  • Review existing and new calculation/analysis tools to identify methods, data requirements, and other tool features to determine whether the tool requires updates.
  • Support tool updates to incorporate changes identified and affirmed through the tool review process. 
  • Perform tests to ensure tools are functional, technically accurate, easy to use, and consistent.
  • Develop/update clear and concise tool manuals that describe methods, use, and future update requirements.

Identify and Asses New Clean Energy Technologies and Measures 

  • Identify, review, and support screening of new measures/technologies that can contribute to California’s EE and IDSM portfolio.
  • Perform engineering analysis to characterize or validate efficiency impact claims for new measures.

Support Development and Review of Deemed Measure Packages (MPs)

  • Perform data collection, analysis, and documentation to support deemed measure development.
  • Promote quality control of MPs to ensure technical rigor and adherence to documentation standards.
  • Support tools and training to improve quality and efficiency of the measure development process.

Support Cal TF Initiatives and Working Groups

  • Perform data collection, analysis, and documentation to support working groups activities.
  • Perform additional stakeholder outreach as needed to ensure appropriate stakeholder engagement and to build consensus on working group solutions and work products.
  • At the direction of senior Staff, prepare meeting agendas, materials, notes, and action items.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Building Science, or related field/experience 
  • One to five years of energy efficiency experience, including understanding of common energy efficiency measures and building energy systems
  • Demonstrated interest in clean energy technologies and strategies 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
