What is the role?

Michaels Energy is seeking a Senior Analyst to contribute to projects in the Research and Evaluation department. The Research and Evaluation Senior Analyst is responsible for collecting and analyzing information and data from residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency programs and related research. The Senior Analyst collaborates with a project manager and cross-functional staff to deliver meaningful insights and actional recommendations that will inform our clients’ strategies for influencing markets and improving building energy performance. We are looking for a self-starter with strong analytical and communication skills and a passion for energy efficiency who will thrive in a team environment and will exemplify our core values.  

  • Primary & secondary data collection
    • Contribute to the design of data collection instruments such as surveys, engineering onsite surveys, and in-depth interview guides
    • Administer surveys and track recruiting metrics and responses
    • Conduct interviews with various energy industry professionals, utility staff, supply chain market actors, trade allies, businesses, and subject matter experts
    • Coordinate the fielding of surveys with external partners
    • Review and analyze past evaluations and other studies related to topic areas in the energy industry
  • Data analysis
    • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data from primary and secondary data sources
    • Distill key insights and takeaways and present them in compelling narratives and visualizations
    • Estimate energy, demand, and greenhouse gas (GHG) impacts and other metrics of impact or influence
  • Project delivery
    • Collaborate with team members and contribute to memos, reports, and presentations for clients

After 6 months, you have….

  • Contributed to multiple Research & Evaluation projects
  • Developed familiarity with different data collection and analysis methodologies
  • Developed familiarity with industry topics and evaluation methods

What are we looking for?

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, data science, economics, or other relevant field
  • Coursework or applied experience in social science research methods and data analysis
  • Coursework or applied experience in the energy industry including energy efficiency, demand response, clean energy, or climate change mitigation 
  • Basic statistical analysis experience
  • Basic database management and data cleaning experience
  • Must be detail-oriented, analytical, and highly motivated
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Software skills: MS Office, especially Excel, Word, and Teams
  • Ability to travel nationally up to 10% for client meetings, conferences, and company headquarters

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in statistics, data science, economics, or other relevant field
  • Market research experience, including developing, conducting, and analyzing surveys or other primary data collection
  • Experience with implementing or evaluating energy efficiency, demand response, or renewable energy programs
  • Advanced statistical analysis and modeling
  • Qualitative coding and analysis

Pay Scale

$75,000 - $95,000 + regional adjustment if applicable

Remote or any of the Michaels Energy office locations: La Crosse WI, Minneapolis, MN, Cedar Rapids, IA, Denver, CO, Chicago, IL, and Richmond, VA.
