Through the Leading with Equity initiative, ACEEE researchers have synthesized perspectives from community-based organizations and advocates to provide recommendations to help city, state, and utility decision makers advance an equitable energy future.
Communities of color and low-income communities face high energy burdens and barriers to accessing energy efficiency and clean energy services, while experiencing disproportionately high levels of pollution and living in inefficient housing. Providing robust, accessible energy-saving programs and services to such communities can help address these problems and advance an equitable energy future.
Drawing from The 2024 City Clean Energy Scorecard, this brief highlights several emerging strategies city governments are employing to advance equitable outcomes. We offer this brief as a resource for cities looking to increase the equity focus of their clean energy actions.
