Improving Central Air Conditioner Performance Ratings: A Review of Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratings (SEER)

Despite the enormous range of summer climate conditions in the US, central air conditioners everywhere have been rated by a single measure, SEER. This study examined alternatives that would require different rating methods in three major climate zones, using current rating points and slight changes in the test methods. The study is one basis for the EISA provision requiring DOE to evaluate regional standards.
