State air regulators can rely on energy efficiency to help meet specific pollutant reductions required under the EPA’s National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). However many states are not incorporating this compliance strategy into their state implementation plans (SIPs). This report analyzes the location of air quality improvements from energy efficiency and identifies areas in Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas where efficiency can deliver the greatest pollution reductions. Based on our findings we recommend several actions to further efficiency's key role as an air quality strategy for all states. For more information, watch the webinar:
