Building the Clean Energy Workforce in Mississippi: Lessons for Other States

Recent federal legislation to scale home energy efficiency and electrification projects nationwide is slated to create thousands of good-paying jobs while also fueling a growing demand for energy efficiency technology. States working to develop guidance on supporting this industry can act now to cultivate a robust and diverse workforce to deliver on these efficiency investments.

Join us for a webinar spotlighting ACEEE’s Mississippi Energy Efficiency Workforce Accelerator. ACEEE launched the accelerator to connect and create resources for local workforce stakeholders to expand the local energy efficiency workforce. We will explore key findings from the accelerator including a workforce landscape assessment and collaborative workforce strategies. Attendees will also hear about successes and lessons learned on equitably training the workforce from three Mississippi-based organizations that have designed and implemented successful workforce programs.

Speakers:

Caitlin Brooking, CEO and President, Refill Jackson Initiative 

Caitlin is responsible for day-to-day operations, fundraising, and supporting a talented staff of seven in carrying out workforce development training and wrap-around social services for young adults in the Jackson area. Before becoming the president & CEO of Refill Jackson Initiative, she served on the Board of Directors for three years.   

Stratton Lobdell, Field Operations, EZ Green Home

Stratton has been working in the HVAC and energy efficiency industry for almost two decades. He has run programs for Honeywell, Duke Energy, ICF, Entergy, and Dominion. Since 2022 he has spent most of his time working as a consultant helping design and implement efficiency programs focused on low-income communities in the southeastern United States in partnership with EZ Green Home as his primary client.

Romona Taylor Williams, Executive Director, Mississippi Communities United for Prosperity 

Romona is a community and economic development practitioner with 30 years of experience of working in low wealth and predominantly African American communities in urban centers. She oversees Mississippi Communities United for Prosperity’s operations. Her work centers on promoting equitable and inclusive applied research and analysis to impact community and economic development, consumer protection, education, climate change, environment, health and social justice. 

Moderator: Roxana Ayala, Senior Research Analyst, Local Policy, American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy 

Roxana Ayala, a senior research analyst with ACEEE’s local policy program. She conducts research, writing, and technical support on local-level energy efficiency policies and initiatives, with a focus on energy equity and workforce development.
