There are major opportunities today, supported by federal programs geared toward industry and communities, for industrial companies to install new decarbonization technologies that deeply reduce both carbon emissions and health-damaging air pollution. A new ACEEE analysis and interactive map identify locations where industrial facilities emit high levels of carbon dioxide and air pollution near large disadvantaged populations, using the cement and steelmaking sectors as examples. Prioritizing such locations can help the Biden administration, industry, and state and local community planners better align air quality and climate efforts when making investment and facility upgrade decisions and create a cleaner, more sustainable manufacturing sector and a healthier, more equitable future.
