The Federal Energy Policy Act of 2005 and Its Implications for Energy Efficiency Program Efforts

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 was signed into law in August of 2005, the first major piece of federal energy legislation since 1992. This report summarizes the energy efficiency sections of the new law including new tax incentives and energy efficiency standards. Projections of energy savings from these provisions are included. Implications of this new law for state and local energy efficiency programs are discussed, including ways state and local programs can take advantage of this new law to increase energy savings and reduce program costs.
