Keith Klontz , Advanced MotorTech LLC
Keith W. Klontz received BS & MS degrees from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and the PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, all in Electrical Engineering. He was with Duke Power Co. (now Duke Energy), Charlotte, NC, from 1975 to 1980. From 1980 to 1989 he was Vice President-Engineering with McHenry Electric Company, McHenry, IL, a large service and sales center for industrial electric motors and drives. From 1995 to 1998 he was Associate Professor at University of South Florida, Tampa, FL USA, and in 1998 he joined Fisher Electric Technology, Inc., St. Petersburg, FL, USA as chief electrical engineer for the design and analysis of high performance and specialty BLDC, brushed and induction machines. Since 2005, Dr. Klontz has been President and CEO of Advanced MotorTech, LLC, an engineering consulting and services company with emphasis on electric machine design, training and prototyping. At Advanced MotorTech he has been involved in the research, development, fabrication, testing, re-design and evaluation of hundreds of industrial and very high performance machines, with significant activity in the wind energy and EV/HEV fields. He is well known for his training courses which uniquely combine advanced theory and practical experience. Recent work includes the design of permanent magnet alternators, brushless d.c. motors, very high efficiency induction and PMAC motors, synchronous generators, very high power density machines, slotless machines, axial flux PM motors, and low cost manufacturing. Dr. Klontz is co-inventor of six issued U.S. patents, with eight additional patents pending, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Wisconsin.
